Death Race (6/11) Movie CLIP - Jensen Fights Pachenko (2008) HD
this fight scene from death race is a classic fight scene from an action movie. Classic fight scenes tend to involve the main character getting in a difficult situation which tends to be him getting ganged up and close to death or about to get killed. The main character very rarely dies in an action movie so the audience know that something will happen that will spark a fight scene that the main character will beat everyone up and walk away barely injured. almost every single action movie will have a 'baddie' with either big muscles and alot of semi big gang. or a smaller 'baddie' that has a very big butch sidekick and allot of smaller people in a 'private army'. The location of this particular scene is based in a garage like base is very appealing to the mail audience and stereo-typically men like fast cars this adds a certain 'hardness' to the scene already. the scene gets quite gory with the head slam on the clamp and the stabbing on the leg and shoulder. this also map appeal to the male audience.

film brief
We want our movie to be an action movie. We will like to start our movie opening scene right in the middle of an action scene to get our viewers intrigued. i have my moped so we will use that as a chase scene and perhaps a power slide into a shooting scene. This will act as a prologue and at the end of the scene it will go back in time at the beginning of the movie. For this we will use a mixture of fast pace shots to make the chase scene fast and vicious.
What we could do to make our opening scene more complicated
but more engaging is to put the main character in an unknown location seemingly
captured by the 'baddies'. Whilst being interrogated the main character walks
through the action scene as it is being shown. The action scene will be
presented as a flash back to the audience. For the interrogation the camera shots will be mainly close up to show the main characters facial expressions and injuries. we will need to use the 180 rule to make the scene look better.

Research and Planning Targets
A good start - but you do need to push yourself further. You need to evidence your initial ideas and you need to blog regularly. You need to embed some tutorials for the basics and comment on them. Have a look at what students in your class have done to see where you should be by now, but don't copy and paste their words!
For your analysis of opening two minutes make sure you comment on the following things to show a broad understanding and appreciation:
Target Audience
Narrative
Characters
Use of titles
Pace of editing
Mise en Scene
Camera Composition
Use of sound
Genre conventions
A really good start - you now need to begin to evidence detailed planning for your production, which needs to be detailed and thorough.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Opening Scene
This is the scene of the most recent transformers film-dark of the moon. we are shown at the beginning a shot of just bare blank space. this makes us wonder what is in space and how does it link with the movie?
the music sounds very heroic to make the scene of the battle a more tragic place, fans of transformers will know that the narrator is Optimumous Prime the leader of the Auto-Bots. the scene begins with an extreme long shot as you are seeing a vast amount of space and a huge structure.
the opening scene is the story before the actual film starts this gets the audience involved with the movie so they wont be confused later on in the movie.
the opening scene is all computer graphics which will excite the viewers allot as the quality is very good and make them look forward to the rest of the film.
the target audience for this type of film would normally be the male gender aged 12-30. the violence will make the target audience enjoy the movie more also the epic battle scenes will excite the audience.
at the very last moment of the opening scene we see the ship being shot down. this is leaving it on a cliff hanger and will make the audience want to watch more as they will want to see if the shot down space ship survived or not.
Scream (1996) - First 5 Minutes (Opening scene)
this is the first 5 minutes of scream, a hit horror series.
at the very beginning all we see is a black screen this makes us wary on what will pop up on screen as horrors are known for jump scares so the audience is constantly on the edge of their seat. loud bangs and screams jump in to hopefully make the audience scared. they use asynchronous sound with the telephone ringing making us think why the telephone is ringing and who will be the character picking up.
the mysterious male voice makes the phone call unusual as people in the audience can relate and put them selfs in her shoes and feel that it would be very strange.
the situation of a pretty young girl in a house home alone adds to the 'horror' aspect as a young woman seems defenseless on her own.
the shots they use for the phone scene are mainly closes ups to show the hand picking up the phone and mid shots to show the lady on the phone speaking.
they use over shoulder camera shots to follow the girl around the house so the audience can see and feel in her position.
Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix (2007) Official Opening Scene ...
this is the opening scene to harry potter the order of the peonix. the scene starts with iconic music that almost everyone will recognise. the title scene is very dark and gloomy which could suggest evil will be a big part of this movie as dark gloomy smoke surrounding the title will suggest this.
the first shot of the movie is a extreme long shot over looking the location of the movie, it cuts to a birdseye veiw shot to show the specific location of the scene.
the lighting in the opening scene is very night and a lady speaking over the top saying itnis one of the hottest days of the year. this may make the audience think that this may be a good start to the movie as the sun is out itis very hot and you can hear children playing in the back ground.
at 1.03 there is a low angle shot in the grass they use this to show the peacfulness of the area and gets you closer to nature as you are in the grass watching children play.
they use sad music when in a playground and make it seem quite dull and a sad place to be. they choose a mixture of mid shots and two person shots to make them seem in charge, they use two person shots on the group of bullys to show they are in power. harry potter is sitting down on the swing making him see vunrable and weak.
when harry potter reacts to the abuse from the bullys the lightinh becomes dark and gloomy and a strong wind appears form no where. this suggests that evil could be coming or something is about to happen. this gets the audience exitec and on the edge of their seats as it is the first scene in the movie and it is the start of the drama in the movie.
the mis en sen in the scene is very casual costume. mostly t-shirts and jeans. this makes the characters seem less theatening and dangerious esspiaclly when the death eaters arrive.
when running they use over shoulder shots and move the camera with the runniong movements, this put the audience in the characters situation and gets them more involved with the action scene

Saving Private Ryan #1 Movie CLIP - See You On The Beach (1998) HD
in saving private Ryan the scene starts off with a close up of the metal barricades with the calm sea washing in between it. this makes the beach and the scene seem calm and peaceful which could be used as an oxymoron as the 'peaceful' beach will actually be the death of thousands of soldiers.
they put the title 'june 6, 1994' they put this in to tell the people this was the the date of the scene and when this happened in the second world war. this could relate to some people in the audience as the movie came out a wile back so some of the audience may remember the date very well.
the screen cuts to a medium shot of one boat with the sound of more violent waves. the camera zooms out and shows a fleet of ships filled with men. this could make the audience get on edge as there are so many soldiers so there will be a big battle up ahead.
a extreme close up was used at around 30 seconds in, it was of a soldiers' shaking hand.this will show the fear the men had and perhaps share with the audience. the camera scales up the solider and it appears to be the main character of the movie, showing that even the hero of the film can be scared and worried for his life.

James Bond - Quantum of solace opening (HD!)
In the opening of this scene it starts with a long shot showing the vast mountains and exotic location. The road within the mountain over looking the water shows the audience that the location is very symbolic and perhaps the movie is set in a well known country meaning that it can relate to some of the people in the audience. this can also add extra danger to the scene as in the car chase after the long shot the water and the long drop could add extra suspense. the different close up shots of the car and Daniel Craig is very fast pace and shown for only a second this slowly makes you want to see more of the car and how expensive or exotic it is. also Aston martin in James bonds signature car so the audience who already knows about James bond may want to see the new upgraded Aston martin. the music starts off very calm when the scene is starting off. the music gets louder and faster as you get closer to the car then suddenly the music over rules everything for a second and cuts out this is when the roar of the car comes in. this adds alot of suspense within the scene as the audience don't know what situation James bond is in.
when the action begins none of us knows what sort of situation he is in or how much danger he is in. it brings the audience in straight away with a fast pace action scene putting them on the edge of their seat. they put the main character in danger to make the audience think what put him there? how did he get in this situation? will he get out of this? the audience will be glued to the screen which will make them want to stay and watch more.
they use a bunch of mid-shots in the car chase to show the drivers movements in the car such as the violent turning of the steering wheel. the shots have been edited very quickly to make the car chase very fast pace.
the actors in the car chase and James bond are all wearing suits this shows that the film is very high class or the film will be more serious and professional as if james bond was getting chased by chavs and James bond was wearing trackies and a T-shirt the movie will look less professional and serious
the chase scene moves on towards a quarry. the quarry can be seen as a dangerous place for a car chase as there is alot of heavy vehicles and machinery, this will also keep the audience on the edge of their seats as they are wanting to know if he will he through the quarry. during this the music is getting faster so this indicates the car chase is almost over or something big is about to happen.
